How to Transfer a .gy Domain (To or From Register.gy)
You can move a .gy domain between accredited registrars at any time. This guide covers transferring a domain to Register.gy and moving one away from us.
Transferring a .gy domain to Register.gy
Step 1: Unlock your domain
In your current registrar’s control panel, turn off the transfer lock (sometimes called “registrar lock”).
Step 2: Get your transfer (auth) code
Ask your current registrar for the domain’s transfer code, also called an EPP or auth code. It’s usually emailed to the domain owner.
Step 3: Send us your request
Use our contact page or email contact@iis.gy with the domain name and the name of the current owner. Don’t send the transfer code by email; we’ll arrange a secure way to receive it. We’ll confirm the cost before we start (normally one year’s renewal, GYD 10,500 or US$49).
Step 4: We complete the transfer
We submit the transfer at the .gy registry, usually within one business day of receiving the code. Your website and email keep working during the transfer as long as your nameservers stay the same.
Transferring a .gy domain away from Register.gy
Your domain belongs to you, and you’re free to move it. We don’t charge a fee to transfer out.
- Log in to your Client Area.
- Open Website, email & DNS under the domain, then the Security tab.
- Click Request transfer code. We email the code to the domain owner’s address on file within one business day.
- Give the code to your new registrar to start the transfer.
Before you transfer
- Make sure the owner’s email address on the domain is current. Transfer codes are only sent there.
- Transfer well before the expiry date, so the domain doesn’t lapse while it moves.
- If your DNS is hosted by your current registrar, copy your DNS records first, or switch to independent DNS, so your website and email keep working.
